Why did you decide to register for the preliminary rounds of the 2019 ICTalent Awards?
I am currently doing an internship at Wind Tales and Bas Dirkson, the CEO, asked me if I wanted to participate. He had received a mail about it from one of the instructors at Fontys ICT. In this mail, he explained that the concept which we had conceived for Wind Tales would be a good submission for the ICTalent award.
How would you best describe your product? What is it capable of? What does it do?
Our product Sparky is developed for children between the ages of 3 and 6. Sparky teaches these children how to control their breathing better by way of various exercises/mini-games within a game. These exercises are done with a spirometer and we hope that by doing these exercises, the children will learn to control their breathing well enough to be able to carry out a lung function test. With this as our goal, we hope to make training your breathing at home easier so that you won't need to go to the hospital as often and that children will feel better thanks to these exercises.
What makes your product so unique?
There is no product on the market that teaches children to do breathing exercises in a playful manner. The game also takes place in a home setting where every room of the house represents a different exercise. It includes a bathroom, dining room, kitchen and a garden. This also really speaks to the world of children and we hope it will also be very natural and relatable for children.
Why should you win the 2019 ICTalent Awards?
I think Sparky is a great concept for a professional task and can help eliminate a big problem for the next generation. Children with lung problems tend to have difficulty with maintaining consistent lung exercises.
We hope that with Sparky children will be able to do more lung exercises for longer and help relieve parents of this burden. Sparky will also ensure fewer visits to the hospital for children with asthma-related problems by teaching them how to properly carry out a lung function test.
Suppose you win the main prize of EUR 2000 per person. How will you use that money to further develop your product and talents?
The product is already being brought to market by Wind Tales, so we won't use the money to further finance Sparky. I also think that the ICTalent Award is good for giving Sparky more exposure and promotion prior to it being introduced on the market.
And... is there anything you wish to say to your competitors?
Have a great time and good luck at the final.
